Local gallery trying to help homeless with
fund-raiser
The Spearfish Arts Center gallery will host the
“Empty Bowls” function on October 16, World Food Day, beginning at
6 p.m. at the Deadwood Social Club. For $10 patrons can purchase a
bowl to take home as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the
world. One serving of soup prepared and donated by Deadwood Social
Club is free, with each bowl. Anyone can create a bowl to add to
the inventory for the event. Then those bowls will be used to help
raise money to feed the hungry.
The “Empty Bowls” concept
originally evolved from a high school art class project in Michigan
during the early 1990’s. Since then “Empty Bowls” events have
expanded throughout the world, helping to raise money in the fight
against hunger. There will be a cash bar and entertainment to go
along with the meal. To donate a bowl or RSVP for the event call
642-7973. The Deadwood Social Club is located on Main St. Deadwood
above the Saloon No. 10. |
